The Questions You Might Be Wondering

What should I wear?
There’s no dress code at Island FMC. You’ll see people dressed in a variety of ways, from casual to more traditional Sunday clothing. You don’t need to dress up to fit in. Wear whatever you’re comfortable wearing.
Do I need to know anything about church?
Not at all. You don't need to know the Bible, understand church traditions, or have attended church before. You won't be expected to know when to stand, what to say, or what to do. Our weekly bulletin includes the order of service, so you can follow along if you'd like.
Will someone talk to me?
Yes, you'll be welcomed when you arrive and given a weekly bulletin, but you won't be put on the spot. You won't be asked to stand, introduce yourself publicly, or tell everyone you're visiting. If you'd like to talk with someone, our church family is happy to connect with you. If you'd rather quietly find a seat and take everything in, that's okay too.
Where should I sit?
Anywhere you feel comfortable. There aren't assigned seats or a special section for visitors. When you arrive, a greeter can show you where the sanctuary, nursery, washrooms, and other spaces are located. You can grab a coffee beforehand and choose a seat in the sanctuary when you're ready.
What about my children?
Your children are welcome to stay with you during worship. Kids' Corner takes place during the service, and children are then dismissed for Children's Church. Our youngest children can be cared for in the nursery during the service. If you're unsure where your child should go, just ask one of our greeters — we'll help you get settled.
What happens during the service?
Our Sunday service begins at 11:00 AM and includes worship music, prayer, a Kids' Corner, Scripture, and a message from God's Word. Worship music varies from hymns to more contemporary songs, and different people may lead different parts of the service.
You don't have to participate in every part. You're welcome to simply listen and observe your first time.
What if I don't want to participate in something?
You won't be pressured to participate. You can sit, listen, sing, pray, or simply observe at your own comfort level. If there is something you aren't familiar with, you can always follow along with others or simply remain seated.
What if I have a question when I arrive?
Please ask. Our greeters and other members of our church family are there to help. Whether you're looking for the nursery, wondering where to sit, trying to understand what's happening, or simply aren't sure what to do next, we'd rather you ask than feel lost.
What happens after the service?
You don't have to rush out when the service ends. Many people stay to talk, have coffee, fellowship, or pray together. Pastor Musa and other church leaders are generally available if you'd like someone to pray with you or if you'd like to introduce yourself and ask a question.
What if I'm nervous about coming alone?
You're not the only person who has ever walked into a church not knowing anyone. You don't need to bring someone with you, know someone here, or have everything figured out. When you arrive, someone will welcome you, give you a bulletin, and help you find your way around. From there, you can take things at your own pace.
What if I'm not sure what I believe yet?
That's okay. You don't have to have your faith figured out before visiting. Whether you're exploring Christianity, returning to church after some time away, or simply curious about Island FMC, you're welcome to come, listen, ask questions, and learn more.
